Since the end of the regular season we have seen some pretty big developments in the hockey world. None of theses developments are as big as the rumours about Steve Yzerman being tapped to turn around the Detroit Red Wings organization. These rumours are appearing to be true as a press conference is scheduled for this afternoon.
Hockeytown will be buzzing and the Red Wings faithful will creme themselves. The poster boy of modern day hockey in Detroit is coming home. It is expected that Steve Yzerman is going to be announcing he is the next GM of the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings which have had a pretty dismal record the past few seasons are in full rebuild mode. The Red Wings finished this year with a record of 32 – 40 – 10 and that was good enough for 28th spot out of the 31 teams in the league.
Detroit has some bright spots in there future so they are most likely trying to make sure they don’t ruin them. Steve Yzerman is a fierce competitor and will most likely be looking to mimic the success he had building the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Yzerman has been the architect of some pretty successful teams in hockey so its no wonder the fans will be gitty. Yzerman has not only had success in the NHL but internationally as well.
In 2007 Steve Yzerman was named the General Manager of Team Canada. Yzerman’s successful philosophy transpired into a Team Canada win at the IIHF World Hockey Championships.
Yzerman also carried his success to Team Canada in 2009 by becoming the executive director of the 2010 Canadian Gold Medal winning men’s hockey team. There is no doubt the Detroit Red Wings are excited for this and maybe the hockey world is being put in notice.
