The Colorado home opener on Thursday night proved a few things for both clubs. For Calgary Lucic is exactly what they needed. As for Colorado Kadri was a great acquisition.
Let’s start with the reason for bringing in Lucic. It is no secret to anyone that the Calgary Flames first round exit last year was because they were bullied and outplayed by the Avalanche. That isn’t going to happen anymore.
In Milan Lucic’s first regular season game as a Calgary Flame he set the tone. Colorado Avalanche defenceman, Nikita Zadorov gave Calgary forward Austin Czarnik a questionable hit along the boards and Lucic wasn’t having any of it.
Milan Lucic then proceeded to show why he is a Calgary Flame and what his presence is going to mean. When you rough up a Flame he will let you know that it won’t go unnoticed.
The Flames won the Western Conference with ease last year. That didn’t mean anything come playoff time. So if they shave a few points in this season but let the opposition know you aren’t going to mess with there players, the long term benefits are going to out weigh the few points. They will probably make it up anyways through the back end.
The Colorado Avalanche on the other hand traded for Nazem Kadri and although he was left off of the score sheet he had an impact. Kadri who is projected to be a stud this year showed a glimpse of what he is capable of in the Avalanche uniform.
While Kadri didn’t score on the play his moves are good. Kadri looks pumped and is playing with confidence.
The rivalry may be born between the Avs and Flames. This will be a good Weatern Conference matchup this year. We can’t wait to see how this battle proceeds in the future.
