Canadiens’ Gallagher out indefinitely with concussion

Brendan Gallagher has been placed on the injured reserves list by the Montreal Canadiens after suffering a concussion on Tuesday. The right winger will be out indefinitely.

During Tuesday’s matchup between the Canadiens and Carolina, Gallagher took a clean hit from Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal. Unfortunately, Gallagher’s fall put his head in perfect position to take a crushing knee from passing teammate Ben Chiarot.

“Obviously, you never want to see one of your guys hurt and it’s even worse when it’s off of you,” Chiarot told reporters after Montreal’s 3-1 loss to Carolina on Tuesday. “Gally is a heart and soul guy for our team, and it’s hard to see him go down like that. He’s not a guy who lays on the ice unless he’s really hurt.”

Claude Julien, coach of the Montreal Canadiens, confirmed the injury on Thursday via the team’s official Twitter page.

Brendan Gallagher has 15 goals and 17 assists in 40 games this season.
